Lake Country Estate
It's been more than a century since the railway first connected Minnesota with the East Coast, but the ties are as strong as ever. After the clients acquired their own spectacular piece of acreage west of Minneapolis, they commissioned P/K and interior designer Linda Engler to create a home that melded classic New England Colonial style with Midwestern farmhouse vernacular. Taking inspiration from traditional gracious country estates, the P/K team combined an array of formal and rural design elements including a columned front porch, a progression of perfectly aligned windows, shed roofs, dormers, and a steel roof designed to look like shakes. Inside, a grand center staircase, a formal dining room and living room, a spacious kitchen, four bedrooms, and a game room with a stone fireplace provide a warm welcome for family and friends who love making the journey out to the prairie.
