Cedar Lake Residence

Built in 1935 as a weekend home, this unique International Style home on Cedar Lake is a designated Minneapolis Landmark and one of the few lakeshore homes in the city. The present owners had outgrown the home but loved its modernist expression, Art Deco influences, and beautiful lake views. Among the changes, a new third floor was added to create a master suite aerie with a sweeping terrace and panoramic views. Peterssen/Keller worked closely with the Minneapolis Heritage Preservation Commission and Streeter to enlarge the home and incorporate energy efficient updates while respecting the integrity and scale of the original design.

The home won a 2014 RAVE Award (Residential Architects Vision & Excellence) for design excellence. This project also received a 2012 AIA Minnesota Home of the Month Award for design excellence, and was featured in the Star Tribune. The home also received a 2012 Minnesota Preservation Award. The Preservation Alliance of Minnesota wrote: "Now here's how to renovate a historic home. Peterssen/Keller Architecture took a beautiful International Style residence on Cedar Lake, added a third floor, and kept it looking as sleek as it did in 1936. The home has a great view of the water, and the water has a great view of the home."

The home is featured on the cover and inside of the book Legendary Homes Of Minneapolis City Of Lakes, by Bette Hammel & Karen Melvin, published in October 2012. Over 1,000 people toured the home during the 2011 Homes By Architects Tour. The home is also featured in the national competition, Marvin Windows Architect's Challenge Showdown.
