Enchanted Island Residence
After a devastating fire that destroyed their home, our clients chose to rebuild on their stunning and unique lakeshore property on Enchanted Island in Lake Minnetonka. They wanted a modern house that would take advantage of lake views in every direction and have the expansive openness of their former home. P/K designed the house as an aperture for viewing the lake and surrounding woods, and as a regulator that mitigates and reveals the contours of the land as it slopes down towards the lake. The ground undulates in ribbons as it passes through the house—providing a dramatic framed lake view under the second level "bridge" and the intimate experience of a planted slope as it rises up steeply from the lower level. The exterior expression and materials extend into the interior, creating a muted and warm modern palette.
