Sandhill Residence
The project is a new modern home in White Oaks Savanna, an architecturally driven residential community. It is placed to respect the sightlines of the neighboring homes while maximizing the long views of the gentle hills, wetlands and wildlife. The clients envisioned a mid-century modern-inspired home that reflected their contemporary lifestyle and passion for nature. PKA responded to the clients’ design goals and the surrounding context with a modestly scaled modern home nestled into the prairie landscape. The open, loft-like floor plan with ten-foot ceilings, modern windows and sliding glass doors allows the interiors to live big while blurring the lines between indoors and out. Carefully placed windows frame artful views of heritage oak trees while clerestory windows and skylights capture additional natural light to illuminate the interiors and enhance well-being in every season. Guided by the clients’ passion for sustainability and desire to minimize energy consumption, solar panels, Tesla Powerwalls, SPAN smart electrical panels and geothermal were incorporated.
