After living in the heart of both New York City and Minneapolis, this young family was ready to settle into a quieter neighborhood with a stronger connection to nature and community. Drawn to the charm of the historic district, they found an older house along the creek to make their forever home. It was dark, and the strict floor plan was difficult to adapt to the evolving needs of their growing household. With PKA, the family envisioned a more open floor plan better suited for everyday life and entertaining while still preserving the unique character of this historic Cape Cod Colonial home. The sculptural wave-screen guardrail at the main stair helps define the spaces without sacrificing views of the creek and the sunlight shining in. The result is a thoughtfully composed design that harmonizes the old with the bold, creating lasting spaces for the years to come.
